Monster Brief 002: The Radiohead Bunker
Monster Brief 002: The Radiohead Bunker
Project Code: Motion Picture House | Coachella 2026
The Mission: Transform a massive 17,000-square-foot subterranean structure into a dystopic museum for Radiohead’s KID A MNESIA exhibition. Located near the Sahara Tent, this "Bunker" was engineered to house a 75-minute immersive film and sprawling galleries of art from Thom Yorke and Stanley Donwood.

The 5-Month Sprint: Engineering Under Pressure
Most permanent structures of this scale take years to plan and execute. The Coachella Team delivered this subterranean beast—complete with a concrete foundation, steel framing, and a custom six-point surround sound system—in just five months. Working within this impossible window, we coordinated the production of over 15,000 square feet of specialized media while the structure itself was being finished around us. This wasn't just a deadline; it was a tactical deployment.
The Creative Directive: "Found" Aesthetics
Thom Yorke, Radiohead, and the Coachella Team were very specific: They did not want a "clean" commercial look. They craved an organic, textured atmosphere that felt like it had been discovered rather than installed.
-
Leaning into the Grit: To achieve that "found" look within the steel and concrete structure, we leaned into high-scale wheat pasting. This traditional, tactile method allowed the natural grit and imperfections of the bunker’s 38-foot walls to bleed through the art.

-
The 26-Foot Modified Bear: This icon was executed as a raw wheat paste, creating a rough-hewn energy that felt like a permanent street mural rather than a temporary print.

-
The "Weeping" Reaper: The bunker’s air-conditioned, subterranean environment provided a natural collaboration. As the AC units began to condensate, water ran down the face of our 25-foot "Bear Reaper" in the boat. The resulting water streaks added a layer of natural decay that the Radiohead team loved—it made the art feel like it was literally weeping in its dystopic home.

Engineering the Impossible: 55-Foot Seamless Eco-Displays
To anchor the galleries, we produced 55-foot-wide by 10-foot-tall continuous eco-display fabric prints. While most facilities are forced to seam panels together—creating distracting lines—we delivered single, seamless, panoramic landscapes that allowed attendees to be completely swallowed by the environment.

A Partnership in Production
Projects of this magnitude only happen through absolute trust. We are incredibly thankful and humbled to work alongside Goldenvoice and the Coachella Team. Being trusted with a cornerstone activation for Radiohead is a responsibility we don't take lightly.
