Another day at the office: How Monster Media Pulled Off DesignerCon’s Pasadena Takeover
When outsourcing failed, an emergency call from Ben on a desert highway put Riverside's Monster Media Inc. to the test on how fast our prints can print.
Introduction: It’s Wednesday afternoon. One of the coolest design and pop-culture conventions in the region, DesignerCon, is scheduled to open its doors at the Pasadena Convention Center on Saturday. There’s just one massive problem: the venue’s outsourced print partners couldn't meet the tight turnaround timeline.

With time slipping away, Ben from DesignerCon did what any smart owner does when a broker fails—he bypassed the middlemen and called the actual manufacturer: Monster Media Inc.
The Call from the Desert: When my cell phone rang as I was wrapping up a meeting at Arcade Coffee in downtown Riverside, Ben was literally driving in from Las Vegas. He didn't have the exact window dimensions yet, and we didn't know the final quantity. All we knew was that a massive venue facade needed to be fully wrapped in 60/40 window perforated vinyl, and it had to happen now.
While Ben was racing down the highway toward Pasadena with a tape measure, I didn’t hesitate. I said yes. Because we own our machinery and employ our own crews, I have the agility to greenlight a crisis project on the spot.
The Thursday Grind: Ben arrived at the convention center, hand-measured the massive glass panes of Exhibit Hall A and B, and fired the specs over. I had my design team get to work getting the files set up to print immediately. We fired up the printers and off to the races we go!
While our large format machines were running through the night, outputting vibrant panels of 60/40 window perf, our focus shifted to the next critical challenge: Friday morning logistics and deployment.
The Hand-Off and the Hustle: On Friday, as the final panels were trimmed and rolled, they were immediately loaded into a dedicated courier vehicle and dispatched directly from Riverside to Pasadena.
Our installation crew was already staging on-site, waiting on the pavement. The second the courier doors flew open, the hand-off occurred, and our team went to work. Panel by panel, ladder by ladder, our crew perfectly aligned and squeegeed the massive graphics across the convention center’s glass entryways.

By Friday night, before the exhibitors even finished setting up their booths, the job was complete. The brand activation was flawless, bubble-free, and ready for thousands of attendees on Saturday morning.
It’s a Wrap (Pun Intended): The show went off without a hitch. But a true manufacturing partner stays until the final curtain falls. On Sunday night, as the convention closed down, our crews returned to the Pasadena Convention Center, meticulously uninstalled and removed all the graphics, and left the venue spotless.
The Takeaway: When your brand is on the line, you can't rely on asset-less brokers who have to ask their suppliers for permission. You need to work with the people who actually run and own the printers and the equipment to get your project done on time. Ben from DesignerCon went direct to the manufacturer, and we delivered.
